Onii’Chain Is Using Chainlink VRF to Generate Provably Random NFTs
Following our launch, we are proud to announce that all Onii’Chain NFTs (Onii) are randomly generated using Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF).
Since an Onii NFT can wear extremely rare items — some with a 0.001% chance of dropping — we decided to integrate Chainlink VRF as a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness in our NFT generation mechanism. The result is a high-integrity process for generating Onii NFTs based on true entropy.
Onii’Chain is a decentralized NFT platform on Ethereum, which means your avatar and its metadata is fully generated and stored on-chain with its own rarity system. Oniis can’t be stopped — once your Onii is generated, it will exist for eternity (or as long as Ethereum exists) and not “somewhere” on a centralized server.
In order to bring transparency and fairness to our NFT generation mechanism, we needed access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity. For instance, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data like block hashes can be exploited by miners, while data derived from off-chain RNG solutions like traditional data providers are opaque and don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process.
Now, Onii collectors can rest assured that their Oniis are generated with provably fair randomness based on cutting-edge academic research, time-tested oracle infrastructure, and the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts. To simplify the minting process from collectors, the Onii team is providing LINK tokens to the smart contract to call the VRF Coordinator.
